This powerful pickup received a major refresh last year, and this year sees even more added. New this year is an off-road-focused ZR2 Bison special-edition trim level, plus a more powerful Duramax diesel engine. For the most part, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 remains mostly unchanged from last year's model. That said, Chevy has increased the power and torque of its Duramax diesel powertrain. This engine now outputs 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
As for the ZR2 Bison, this trim features robust bumpers, complete underbody protection, and impressive off-road suspension. When you need to go off-road, the ZR2 bison has you covered.
Performance
Multiple engine options are available for the 2023 Silverado 1500. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.7-liter 310 horsepower four-cylinder. Though three other powertrains are available. These other engines include a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine.
With these powertrain options, the Silverado 1500 can haul upwards of 2,200 pounds and tow about 9,800 pounds. But with the 3.0-liter turbodiesel equipped, the towing capacity is increased to around 13,300 pounds.
Technology
The Silverado 1500 has been outfitted with several new tech features this year. Now, this truck utilizes Google technology, allowing for simple button presses or voice commands. Drivers can also send texts, alter the climate control, or use Amazon Alexa with their voice.
Safety
The new Silverado 1500 is outfitted with advanced driver-aids. Coming standard is forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, a blind spot monitor, and lane departure warning. Optional packages will add a surround view camera system and a head-up display.
